Hey all,

If it's true that armored car services (Brinks, Garda, etc) have a separate pile of coins for each bank, aren't we cheating ourselves by always ordering from the same big banks? A large bank like PNC (in our area), or Chase, or TD, probably has a huge number of CRH'ers ordering, searching and dumping boxes, disproportionate to the amount of silver it has and gets, either in old boxes sitting around or collections being cashed in for face. A smaller bank probably has a much smaller store of coins in the Brinks (or what have you) vault, and those coins are more likely to be old, collections, etc (AKA Silver :icon_thumright: ). I'd assume this probably works in the same way that CWRs in major cities are less likely to be silver than CWRs in small towns. Do you guys usually order from large or small banks? Do you find any correlation between the size of the bank and the quality/quantity of your finds? We may just be doing this wrong by searching large volumes from huge banks... the number of marked coins we find would seem to indicate so :BangHead: !

the problem is....smaller banks usually dont do halves box orders.

its possible that they do, but also its evident that big collections get dumped into the big banks all the time from the scores on this board all the time.

The best answer from my limited experience the last 7 months and intuition is that its out there at every bank and you just have do as much volume as you can everyday, every week and hope you hit the vein and collect the dust along the way.

Interesting thought, id like to eventually put this to the test.

When smaller banks order coins, they order it from the larger banks in their region.
I have 2 small regional supply banks that do this.

The small rural banks I hunt don't order halves, or much of any coin really. So it can be hit or miss in terms of scores. Also, a lot of dumps just get shuffled around the area, no new coins except from what comes in from customers. When you are first, they can be real good, but a lot of it is dumps that can't be sent off due to insufficient amounts. The nice thing about hunting hand rolled coin is you can catch an entire collection. I've found collections in every denomination except quarters and dollars. Rolls of wheat pennies, war nickels, pre-60's, mercs, 40's and 90's are possible. I also get the stuff coincounters reject, such as odd foreign coins or tokens.

Thanks, folks, for the replies. I think that we're just going to try a mixture of large and small banks, and in various denomenations.

In the end it really comes down to volume and luck.

I know a lot of people say that the key to finding a lot of silver , is to do volume (ie. multiple boxes)
however - from my experience - over the counter CWR's are great for the percentage of silver found
vs. the amount of reject coin . My advise to anybody involved in CRH-ing , would be to do as much
volume as you can efficiently do , but do not neglect to ask for rolls anywhere and everywhere !
Argentium.

The small bank theory has not worked out for me yet. I have hit up just about every bank in my area and found that the smaller banks and credit unions don't even have halves or Ikes for that matter most of the time. I just started, but I have found all of my silver from one branch of one of the huge worldwide banks here in town.
