I found this in an area that's given up everything from wheaties to colonial buttons and large coppers. From looking at the ornate designwork, my guess is Victorian, but I have no idea what it is for. Of the three "legs" the short one has a hole in the top - my guess is that this may have been a stand of some kind (maybe one of a pair of feet for a picture frame or small mirror?) Material is heavy, light gray - like a pewter or lead or somethng like that. I doubt its valuable but more than once this Tnet crew has surprised me with an unexpected ID.

so this is a cradle of sorts that would attach to a base? Any reference you can point me to? Thanks for the lead? I think you are correct - looks like pewter.
