Small Lid......From What?

Hello,

Found this about 10 inches down. Rang up like a coin, it's pretty heavy and a magnet doesn't stick to it . Made of pewter maybe? Looks like a lid to a tiny stein! Any info appreciated.

Decorative top to a fence post?

It seems like it was meant to lift up though by looking at the pin on the one side.

EDIT: I just noticed the pin does come out of both sides which would make more sense for a stein than a fence post.

The hinge to me suggests it's the lid from an inkwell.

I like the inkwell lid idea. Another possibility is a lid from a salt cellar.
