Cru'dad was away, so Land-Mag kindly dropped me off at a small (1.5 acre) grass field that I had tried for 20 minutes & got an OK Georgian Shoe Buckle. The signs where not that great & being in the villiage it had tons of junk, but I hoped for the 1 good find. I only searched for 3 hours & covered just over half the field when Land-mag pulled in to pick me up. As he stopped the car I dug the best find of the day & only my 2nd ever hammered SHILLING - Lizzy 1592-95:headbang:

Also had 2 good buttons
1 Bronze Age? Bead
Medieval Lead weight
Medieval crushed Lead Bird seed feeder
Counterstamped 'IB' Geo III Halfpenny
Poor Beehive Thimble

Yeap, pretty good nick.

I was planning to do the field opposite behind the big house where I got the half-guinea because of the heavy rain we have had, plus it was less muddy for Land-Mag's dogs. Problem was they had put the cattle out, so dog's was out the question & I wasn't sure how they would feel about me detecting around the cows. Which I have done on other farms, but just need to check. At least they will keep the growing grass in check.

beautiful finds. you always find some really cool and very old stuff. I love looking at your finds. keep 'em coming

Thanks, it was good to get out, even in the rain. I will not be out tomorrow (partly due to heavy rain), & as I have some Records Management to catch up on.

You'd find a hammered on the moon:laughing7:

Lovely coin mate:icon_thumright:

I've had a hammered on the last 5 or 6 outings, this one was another lucky one, as there were very few good signs. Although this is our best Apr hammered count EVER!

I enjoy your posts.
What kind of birds were they feeding with that lead bird feeder? Chickens? Songbirds?

Songbird types, finches, tits, etc..

The bronze "bead" could as well be celtic.

I know, thats why I put a ? by it, I know its ancient, can't be sure its Bronze Age/Iron age/Roman. Just looks similar to a Bronze Age horse fittment I have, but lacking the extra iron fitting. I'm happy with Iron age, just unsure of its function?

Nice finds Cru, especially the hammered...

Now you are going to get me to pick you up again, right???

Nice going on the Lizzy. She looks to be in great shape. WTG!

Thanks, as you know the Bust Strikes on the Lizzies are normally weak, so this is about as good as I could hope for. Dad & I were pretty sure our hammered total this year would take a dive, so 30 this year already is really motoring.:occasion14:
