Small GA Town Forms Armed Posse, Catches Suspected Armed Robber
NOVEMBER 12*2013
BY*DAN CANNON
A little old fashioned justice was dispensed late last week in the small town of Rhine, GA.
Rhine resident, Ken Lowery, age 60, was the first to happen upon a robbery scene at the local convenience store in Rhine. The cashier said a man with a gun had just robbed her.
Several other people showed up to the store and rather than feel sad, or victimized, became mad that someone would have the audacity to commit a brazen, broad daylight robbery in their small town.
The people at the convenience store, possibly as many as 20, many armed, formed a posse and found the suspect not 200 yards from the store, making a casual getaway on foot.
Lowery says he fired a warning shot (we normally recommend not firing warning shots) from his deer rifle, which was kept in his truck. This causes the suspect to try to run, hide his gun and the stolen money, and hid in a nearby shed.
The posse was able to direct sheriff’s deputies to the location of the suspect once they arrived and he was arrested without incident.
In some parts of the country, something like this might be met with outrage, but in Rhine, there is nothing but support for the citizens’ actions.
According*WGXA,
Major Donald Helms of the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office says it’s just a story of good guys with guns. People in a small town excerising their right to bear arms.
“You might not want to come down there and mess with the Rhine folks,” Helms said.
“Don’t come to Rhine and mess with us, because if you do, we’re going to mess with you,” [Rhine Posse member Carter Clements] said.
