hi Guys,

I found this coin between other coins, but this one looks like it could be gold, it is very small & very thin : it's about 15mm to 15.5mm wide and about half a mm thick.

any help on identifying the coin will be appreciated.

thank you very much for the help & info, I would of never guest that I had a British trade token of the 1600's !!! Very interesting. Is this particular token rare / valuable ? or more of a conversation piece ? many thanks again

In the 1858 issue of Trade Tokens Issued in the 17th Century in England, Wales and Ireland, this token is listed as # 2160 on this page:
Tokens Issued in the Seventeenth Century in England, Wales, and Ireland: By ... - Google Books
The reverse image is that of a 'wheatsheaf'; a frequent devise used by bakers. The book further describes the token as in the name of John Spinke (note the difference in spelling from the previous reference above). The description goes on to mention that the token was (as indicated) 'in Nicholas Lane' (now) Lombard Street.
Whatever the specifics, the token is a rare reflection of history.
Congrats to the OP and his find!!
Don.........

hi guys,

just a quick update, I have sent photos to spink auctions in the UK, they mentioned that this token will sell at auction in the region of 300 to 500 pounds, if the condition of the token was better even more! I would of never thought such a small piece of brass / bronze would be with that, a interesting find indeed!

Very Nice Find! Whats the story behind it? You mentioned you found it between other coins...Where they buried? Or mixed in with other coins? :dontknow:

hi guys,

I am a coin collector & dealer, so the story behind the coin is really not that interesting at all, the coins was bought on auction, the token included in the lot, looks like no-one including myself knew the worth or scarcity of this token in between a lot of British pennies & half pennies dating back to 1806 upwards to 1910, now the coins mentioned here is not worth anything unless they are in prestine condition, in NGC grades of XF-45 +.

so the bidding continued on the coins and I ended up winning the coins for ZAR350.00, about US$33.00 :headbang:

this is when I saw the small bronze coin, and came to treasurenet for help, and boy, help came fast!

I wont be able to put up photos of the other coins as they already sold.

thanks for your interest & help guys
