Small Black Powder Keg ?? I don't know !!

I found this interesting small barrel at a thrift shop a few days ago.It has 1 S.C.C. on top of it .Its all hand made from wood and metal.What was it used for and how old might it be ? Someone suggested it may be a antique black powder keg.It only stands 11 inches tall.I got it because its so neat looking !

S.C.C= South Carolina Confederates ??? ???

Used to be back in the 70s and 80s the Wendy's hamburger chain all used the same p/lam countertops on their tables, with what appeared to be old catalog items of farm implements and stuff. One of the items that always cracked me up was a a device with a t-handle on it, listed in big letters as a "Bung-Hole Borer".
