Sleepy's Most Wanted (Roosevelt Dimes)

After having searched through $7,110 worth of dimes, I figured I'd get a Whitman Coin book (1946-1964 Dimes). I'm going to make it my goal to fill it by the end of the year! To the right is my "Most Wanted" List to help keep track of my progress. I want all of my finds to be from CRHing, so I won't be purchasing any of them. Here goes nothing! :headbang: 1)1955

WOW! Big day for the Winged Liberty Head Dime collection! To be honest, I thought I had both of these dates already, so I wasn't too pleased with today's hunt results until I saw both were hole fillers. A pleasant surprise indeed. These mercs are my 28th and 29th unique coins in the 77 coin set and rank #50 (1938) and #68 (1943S) on my merc list.

Sleepy: looking back at yours & mine postings, I think that you & I are the only big time DIME HUNTERS. The rest of the guys are mostly into halves, and a few into cents.
I'm going to go back into my records from about 2012 when I started keeping stats on my CRH numbers and see what comparison year vs year. Can you do the same with yours? Should prove interesting, to see how much the numbers have dropped off, i.e. Avg/box.

Found 2 more mercs last night.

It's a waterfall of mercs right now!

As far as my stats, I don't have the longevity numbers that you, MIhunter, CardsNCoins, GMan00001, and other dime greats have, so my list will be short. Also, mine is kind of an apples to oranges comparison since I change duty stations frequently.

2013 - 32 mercs, 383 FDRs from $98,500 searched - 0.08 mercs/box, 0.97 FDRs/box, 1.06 Ag coins/box (including 4 foreigns)
2014-18 - 0 Ag coins from $2,550 searched //Vegas was not kind to me
2019 - 2 Barbers, 21 mercs, 357 FDRs from $118,310 searched - 0.04 mercs/box, 0.75 FDRs/box, 0.83 Ag/box (inc 14 foreign, 2 Barbers)
2020 - 1 Barber, 9 mercs, 146 FDRs from $57,795 searched - 0.04 mercs/box, 0.63 FDRs/box, 0.71 Ag/box (inc 8 foreign, 1 Barber)

One thing's for sure...regardless of where in the country you are located, the find rate ain't goin' up!

Week Results
Dimes
$6825 (27.30 boxes) - 8 FDRs and 6 Mercs (3 NEW!)

Total Ag: 1.013 oz

After spending the first seven weeks of 2020 searching at least $5800 in dimes, a busy last week saw just $5310 searched. I guess that caused me to go a little harder this week as I unintentionally broke my all-time single week volume record of $6805 (5-10 Aug 2019) with this week's $6825. It looks like it paid off as we were able to take the ol' merc collection from 26 to 29 unique merc dates found as another record was set: most mercs in a single week with 6. On the FDR front, 3 out of the last 5 weeks have seen single digit finds. It seems to be really drying up here as of late. The Most Wanted List is hurting right now. With this week's record breaking volume, do I think I could find a way to squeeze another 13 boxes out of these hunting grounds to eclipse the $10K in a week mark? I do...now dumping all of that will be a different story, but we'll deal with that when the time comes. I think I'm going to make it official and shoot for the week of 23-28 Mar for the $10K in a Week Challenge. The movers may or may not be here on that Friday, but we can hopefully work around that. Last day to hunt these grounds: 2 April.

Sleepy: I too found another Merc from yesterday's dime boxes. So far this month, makes 8 Mercs for the month. Did you see my pic & post of my MERC ENDER the other day. Couldn't believe my eyes at first and was thinking another DREAM BOX just like that of Jan 2017.
I'll be compiling my yearly stats on a separate post. Keep up your hunts at your new duty assignment, I enjoy reading your results as if I were right there.

You know, it's like with athletes trying to score a landmark stat in a category such as goals or home runs. I'm at 899 FDRs all-time right now. #900 musta had a 99% chance of coming today...maybe tomorrow!

Sleepy: I see that your still pulling FULL boxes of 2019's. Just the other day I pull a full box of 2018's; where has this been.

I'm sure that #900 will come this week at the vol rate you run, for SURE.

Thanks! Glad to hear you enjoy the thread. I try to keep it interesting, but obviously that depends (from day to day) on how the hunt goes.

Ha, that's funny. I was thinking today that people are going to have a hard time believing there are still that many 2019 dime boxes out there. I'm just glad to have not seen the 2020's yet. Every year it gets tougher with the billions of coins the mint puts out.

Yikes, that looks painful. Sorry to see the solid-date curse hitting you too, hope things improve for you.
Although you did get all those mercs; still jealous. Win some and lose some I suppose.

True...just gotta push through the skunks. I used to get discouraged by them, now I just get annoyed. I've learned getting annoyed is more productive than quitting.

I kid you not...on a record 17-box skunk streak, inevitably going to 18, when on the last roll I pull a 1964 silver Roosie! That makes 900 all-time. Unless something crazy happens, #1000 won't come for a while...

Congrats Sleepy, I knew you could do it. And while your talking last roll findings., I had during this month alone, was getting down to my last roll in the box showing zero to find a lone single Rosie three (3) times. How do you prefer finding your silvers, right away in the first roll hoping more to follow, or at the very end as a "thank goodness I found ONE".

Thanks, Dozer! If I only get one silver in a box, I prefer 1st roll over 50th. To me, it's like "this box is good" right off the get-go, whereas if a box makes me wait until roll 50 it's like "really?!?". Although I will say, I do enjoy defying the skunks on the 50th roll from time to time.

We actually found multiple silver coins today. Biggest find of the day was my first ever silver proof dime! It was especially a neat find since it was from the 1946-64 set (1950-64 for proofs). I often wondered how I might identify a silver proof from that era since they weren't made in San Francisco, but it turns out my half hunting came in handy here. It's one of those coins that has a mirror finish, but has a good amount of that grimy fog look to it. Not sure if you guys know what I'm talking about. I'm thinking about soaking it in dawn for a couple days to get that proof glow back. Anyway, pics below.

Sleepy: the DAWN soap might work ok on the silver proof. It worked on mine but still had a little milk effect on the coin. Found 2 Rosies in a box the other night, early in the box, however both were in the SAME ROLL three coins away from each other. They were the only silvers in the box, what a bummer.

Unless something crazy happens, #1000 won't come for a while...

Well, something crazy has happened. When I made this comment on Wednesday, I was more so referencing either a dream box or a solid roll. What we have been handed is something completely different altogether. Last night, the DOD announced that all personnel scheduled to move are to remain in place until at least 11 May due to the coronavirus outbreak. :o Maybe we'll see FDR #1000 before we move after all. I think this will cause me to push back the "10K in a Week" challenge. Don't really want to put that kinda stress on my dump bank till I'm for sure leaving, you know, with me apparently getting highlighted on their audit sheets and all. This will buy us at least an additional 5 weeks in the area, so 8 weeks total. We'll see if the military will let us move after that. Until then, we've still got two FDRs left to find!

Sleepy: what WOULD YOUR NEXT ASSIGNMENT location have been? Will this now change locations to somewhere else? At the vol you hunt, you just might make 1000 mark. Good luck on your RE-START.
