Slave tag or not?

branchville sc was charlestown in early 1700s slaves had to be sold with tags to be transported to plantaions atmar tags ....look at the a over 98 who in those days would use that much brass on something for bagage or clothes to use one time

Branchville was not Charlestowne. Your tag isn't a slave tag. Slave tags only came from Charleston, are very distinct, very hard to find, and probably have as many counterfeit ones in circulation as real ones.

Your tag looks like a baggage or tool tag. Did you find it in Branchville?
