Rub it against a streak plate(porcelin tile) and see what color streak it leaves. Post the result here and I can help you identify the mineral. From the picture it is hard to say for sure

It just leaves a light gray streak that wipes right off. It really looks like it was cooked down or refinded.
The gold specks arent pyrite or really dont look to be. Did I mention it was right near an old mine.

Hey Dano
Do you know the name of the mine? What county and state did you find it. Looks like a mineral specimen but too many possibilities.

George

I don't know the name of the mine and it might be from a commercial dredge also. Its in colorado gold contry up by central city

Did my share of highbanking on Clear Creek. However, I made far more money from the tourists playimg poker in Blackhawk than gold in the creek.

The gold is there you just gotta know where to look. I had an oldtimer tell me a few secrets. He used to work on a commercial dredge up there when he was a kid.
