My dog makes those when he has been eating grass.

Is the pin stuck in it? Stone? Fibrous?

Sorry, No Pin. All consistent...feels like dried bone, but not like today's dried bones we find. It is light, except for the little weight it holds. I am not sure exactly on what it is, but it is not stone. Sorry. Had 3 more photos, but they wouldn't download. I can take more, if need to be?

But I agree it looks like a skull of a Bird.

Need better pics though

Possibly a dried up unopened milkweed poddsc_0038-processed-small.jpg

There aren't any holes for eyes or any nasal or mouth openings that is why I think it is a seed pod.JMO Maybe other pics will show these but with pics provided I don't see any.

Not Mammal I Don't think bird seems bulky, 3 inches would be large for any reptiles, my first impression was fish, possibly a spike from a catfish

I swear I see a pin in the first pictures.
Op replies, "Sorry, no pin."
Really ?

Had there been a pin, (I swear I see one) one could have heated it and determined if item was bone by lightly poking it and smelling the smoke.
Sorry, no comment.
