They're biting alright. But only one made it through my veil of Cutters. A quick patch from Dan's can of Repel and we were working through clouds of 'em in the woods today. I figure that's the high point, another old lead round and a few pics of massively gnarled vines and miniscule fiery red fungi not withstanding. There were a few of those "howdaheckdiditget here?" items and a whatchamacallit that might have been part of a bridle rig or rosette.

After several hours of us pounding the neighboring areas where Jon and Dan found their goodies the other day, we went for the easy pickens in town. Got one '06 injun, right near where Fiend got his '06 injun last time he was out this way. Dan passed his Elgin initiation by recovering a watch face! And man you gotta show the handle on that spoon you pulled out, it rocks. Had fun, got sun, teased skeeeters.

Way to show them skeeters you won't be stopped.
When Twistidd and I were out yesterday we saw some water filled tire ruts just loaded with the little biting bastards babies. It's gonna be a nasty year for them. Glad you got some keepers for your trouble.
Mike

Nice huntin' with you today Tim. Only found a 74 memorial and a pouch full of shotgun brass but its always great to get out to that spot. The skeeters were swarmin' but the 40% DEET did its job! Did you ever get a picture of the red furry stuff? Thanks for the info on detectors as well as the other spots to hunt in the area.

Here are the pics of the spoon. Research shows it was made by 1847 Rogers Brothers and the pattern name is "Siren" which was issued in 1891. My oldest find yet! Material of the spoon is heavy silver plate.

Pays off to dig those pull tab signals.

I shall call it your fat lady booby spoon, cool! Get anything from that safety razor head?

Not sure if this thing is a from a bridle rig or a hubcap from a tricycle, though I doubt seriously any tricycles ever saw that neck of the woods we were in. About 2" diameter.

While those .36 cal bullets we've found there might have been fired from the venerable old Colt Navy model 1861, I'm thinking they might have come from something more mundane.

"No pic of the Indian?"
Sorry Neil, I'm a bit camera shy sometimes, other times I'm just slow...

Strangely beautiful tiny fungi. too!

Thanks Nick!
Don't have any calipers laying about but the lead is just under 3/8" so I figured somewhere around .36 cal. .357 maybe?

Nice digs guys! Trumps my '26 wheatie from yesterday. ;D

Injuns are definitely more cool than those 'skeeters.
When will they learn we won't respect their authorata :icon_pirat:
