Nice digs!

I'm curious to know the back mark on the 3rd button. It looks like a pre-war variety.

Could be. I tried looking last night, but in the state of cleanliness they’re hard to see. Will say the letters appear small compared to most I’ve seen

Edit…..you’re likely better at back marks than me. Here is a closeup I took last night (not overly cleaned). Think I can see a “……mld co” from about the 10-1.

First and second pics are of the eagle. It is a 20mm button, and as best I can tell it says SCOVILL MFG CO (dot) Waterbury. Closest I can find is Albert’s GI 94.

Pics 3&4 are of the va button. Hard to read backmark but can see young and something that resembles smith. 22mm button. Looks like VA2D in tice, but the button in the book is a 23mm.

Long way of saying…….as it normally works for me and buttons….eh, looks kinda similar but cant confirm.

Haven’t started on csn button yet, honestly a bit scared to try to clean it. Will try tomorrow and revert back with pics.

Thanks for looking.

Ok…so an update on the buttons. Had an expert look at them recently.

The cs navy button is a CS54. British made with a Courtney and tennent Charleston sc backmark. Pretty excited about that one, it’s likely a once in a lifetime, even though the 150+ yrs in the ground wasn’t the best to it.

The eagle (last 2 below) has a scovill backmark, but I can’t id the front yet. The eagles wings are at a sharper angle than anything I can find.

Third, (in original posting, middle in this posting) the va button is the real surprise…..an unlisted 22mm VA203 with a “Young. Smith & Co*/New-York" backmark. To my knowledge the only known examples of a button with this front/back combo are cuff/vest buttons.

To make it even more odd all 3 of these buttons came out of a 5’ x 10’ area. Nothing else popped out in subsequent hunts, but the first one was certainly memorable.

Oh….button expert advised against cleaning further…..so they are what they are.
