Six wheats, & an old cheap ring...

Hey all,,,
Got back out to, Old Faithful, ( AKA, The hunted out park ) for a few hours. It is holding up to it's new name...
I managed an above average day with (6) wheaties, 1919, 28, 49, 41, (2)-45's, and an old brass, or copper ring...
All of the wheaties were at about 6" down, and are in pretty bad condition for coming out of this park...
The ring was pretty deep for a ring. The deepest I've ever seen one anyway, it was right at 7" down. It's looks to pretty old, made of brass, or copper, with a little blue plastic stone in the center... Ol' DaveDigs put the skunk on me again with a 41 Mercury dime, and a few wheats, I told ya he finds silver almost every trip out... Almost forgot, there's also a 1941 Canadian penny in there as well... Are they like the Wheatie? Are they worth hanging onto?
Hope ya all had a great day...
Good luck & Happy hunting~

Nice finds, I wish I could find that good of stuff! ;D And about the canadian, I say hold onto it...treasure is treasure. EBay rings in my mind when I think of pawning off some treasure to people who may really want it.

Nine wheats and a merc from a hunted out park is very good.

I understand the feeling of getting the skunk. My son does it to me. :P

The 1941 Canadian penny is a good find. King George, right? Cool. All the older canadian coins are worth saving. Unless the '41 is in mint condition I doubt that it is worth more than a typical wheat penny. I don't think there are any small canadian cents that are key dates.

Anyway. Good digs. Park should have more for you.

just curious,
when yall find treasure in a "hunted out place", is it primarily deeper, or in "out of the way" spots? I live in a big city, with many parks that i fear are hunted out. Should i hunt the rough spots, or buy a better detector?
thanks

Nice digs Leon. I'm going to try the new DD1400 coil in one of my hunted out parks today. At least that is my intention right now. It is up to 27 degrees but should by nice out in another hour or two.

Key Dates for Canadian small cents are 1922, 1923,1924 & 1925 ( all with mintages of less than 2,000,000 )

Hey Leon.....Hunt the fringe areas.....it doesn't even have to be overgrown brushy areas. I found both of the walkers I found in the last week....right in the lawn area....but only 1 to 2 feet from the edges of the site....along with a silver quarter and that massive marines ring. Hunting the fringes increases your odds of making finds others have missed if the places have been hunted really hard.

Re: Six wheats, & an old cheap ring...

Thanks all,,, and thanks for the info o the Canadian pennies. Mirage, Mississippi Yankee...
Sorry about the late reply,,, been busy still trying to winterize the holes in this old house...

Cladius Maximus,,, I would have to say most of the silver we still find there is fairly deep, 6" or more. It probably averages around 7" to 8" down. There are still exceptions, but not too many. I don't feel any park is really ever hunted out, every time you take out another piece of trash, there's the possibility of another piece of silver being under it, and no-one ever get it's all...

whites6000inPa,,, That's pretty much what we've been hit lately, is the fringes. Although we still get silver out of eras we have hit hard too. I think it's a combination of the soil conditions, the mood your in, and the style of hunting your doing at the time...
I know to do any good at this particular park, you have to hunt very slow to find any good targets between trash...

Hope any of that makes since,,, just got up,, should have grabbed me a cup first... :P
Hope ya all have a great day.
Good luck & Happy hunting~

Re: Six wheats, & an old cheap ring...

Nice finds! Hunted out parks are one of the best places to hunt! I'd say 6 wheats is a pretty good day, and I'd keep the Canadian, too!

Re: Six wheats, & an old cheap ring...

way to go leon! that old park never seems to let you down!

Re: Six wheats, & an old cheap ring...

I'm sure there's no way to tell if a place is hunted out. Just need to keep on looking like you did. If you didn't, look what you would of missed. Nice finds.
