Braved the wind and the cold this weekend for chilly afternoon hunt. As long as the ground isn’t frozen and my Ace 250 functions I’m good to go! By sundown there was dirt frozen in layers on my shovel and pinpointer.

The fields I picked haven’t been plowed in decades and this was my first real hunt there. Close to the road was predictably trashy but then I hit a large area of shell casings that spanned half the field. I found a total of 36 spent shell casings, one live round, and a few older style shot shell headstamps.

I was determined to dig every target and fortunately I did. My reward was a very nice ornate buckle frame that I’m guessing may be 1700s? In addition I found a lens which looks like it could have been from an older camera or surveying instrument of sorts.

Thanks for Looking!
Nick

You are a better man than I to be out in that cold, you must come from hardy stock! Congratulations on the variety of digs! The cap with Beeman is from an air rifle scope.
Thanks for sharing.

I would say that's a 1700's knee buckle. Very nice find!

Thanks, KENTUCKYWONDER! My wife thought she'd see me home in less than an hour but instead I stayed out all afternoon :laughing7: - and thanks for the ID on the Beeman cap.

That is a nice buckle and certainly worth digging all the shell casings, I know that can get pretty frustrating after about number 30...
