I'm starting to get scarce with targets in certain areas yet I have not even begun to scratch the surface.

Not sure how many pull tabs are in my bin but it has to be over 5,000

And gold rings ?
4 Gold rings, 13 silver rings, 1 copper ring, 1 tungsten ring, 2 class rings, 3 nice non precious metal rings, 6 junker rings, nice heavy silver Pandora bracelet with 4 charms, several earrings, dozens of bullets and shell casings, hundreds of brass screws, half a dozen locks, probably about 30 keys, and well over 5,000 pull tabs. When I got the snake ring 2 days ago that made ring number 30 from this park

That lead is worth something and it is good to get it out of the environment.
That lead is worth between 50 to 70 cents PER OZ on Ebay in the form of fishing sinkers which I make. If I go conservative and say 50 cents I already have almost $300 worth in a short time.

but being realistic, there is probably millions of tons of lead sitting at the bottom of our lakes and streams that we will never get out.

It must be a good place for catfish.
Yes I have caught a few there when the lake is at normal levels. We are 40 feet below full so all the swimming and fishing holes are dry and ripe for the picking. I must have found at least a couple hundred fishing lures, mostly spinners, brass spoons, and jig heads.

OMG yes... if one guy pulled 37 lbs of lead in just over 1 month from one fishing hole you can image the sheer magnitude of it all.

This thread & all the comments just gave me a Eureka moment !
I live in one of three towns that share the same reservoir. I have post cards & pictures of people swimming, boating & fishing in the early 1900s when the "Rezzy" was just a local pond that people would go to on hot summer days. Also, people fished there for years, & still fish there to this day! I fished there in the 1970s & 80s. (Bass, Pickerel, Bluegill, Sunfish, Catfish etc. I have also metal detected there over the last 30 years. (coins, jewelry, bullets, & yes, lead weights.
Just about 3 months ago, the towns sent notices to all residents that the tap water was found to have traces of lead in it!! They are blaming it on the pipes, but I'm not so sure. I wonder if the lead fishing weights are the cause ? I have not drank tap water for many years, but I buy spring water from machines that have deep wells or have it trucked in from companies that treat the spring water with ultraviolet rays.
Here's a link to the November, 2024 story"
