Silver "zincked" penny

I found this silver covered penny while detecting a ball field the other day. I assume its the product of a science experiment.

Very interesting find. I rarely come by electroplated pennies in circulation.
 

It could have been rubbed with mercury.
Don't handle it too much.
 

Found out this week that at least one grade school where one of my grandchildren attends, still teaches basic chemistry with plating pennies as one of many exercises.

Zinc plated Zlincoln. Proper application of heat will give it a gold color.

Time for more coffee.
 

I found a pile of 5 gold plated quarters near a school last year kinda wierd
 

I have to admit when i found it i thought is was going to be a steel penny, but still a fun find.

thats a neat find. my friend got one a month ago or so while we were out. his was a 56 wheat. gave us a nice little puzzle to figure out. then i remebered that expirement from middle school. probably 2002 when we did that project in middle school..
