Zinc coated steel in 1943, saved the copper for the war effort. Valued the same as other common wheats of that era. What you want is the copper 1943, then you'll be set for a long long time.

It is the 1943 steel penny I have a whole roll of each. wouth about 5 cents each...Matt

Soooo, how much is a 1943 copper worth?

Okay, so I retract my statement about being set for a long long time if you find a 1943 copper. I thought the value was mid six to near seven figures depending on grade but....

http://www.usmint.gov/about_the_mint/fun_facts/index.cfm?flash=yes&action=fun_facts2a

"A 1943 copper cent was first offered for sale in 1958, bringing more than $40,000. A subsequent piece sold for $10,000 at an ANA convention in 1981. The highest amount paid for a 1943 copper cent was $82,500 in 1996."

I'd still take one. ;D

What you do have is special, although it is fairly common. It is the only magnetic US coin. Try it!

Ah ha, find me one of the copper ones. A bit much to pay, but I think its worth it. Will let you know when I receive it.
