Today I was invited to join one member from our club, to test our detectors on some other fields. It was hot and dry but we got started at about 9 am. Along the way we had seen one very nice (new)potato field driving to our field, but when we asked about it we were told it was promised to a fellow from the village. Anyway when we arrived we started searching at about 10am until about 12. Then stopped to have a rest and drink, and decided to move on and search for another field. Most of the fields were grass, and we were searching for Tulip fields, they were being dug out about this time because of the dry weather. But we sure did not have much luck, until we did see one field, it was on the highway which is a good sign. We stopped and went to an adjoining farm house, but before we could ring someone called us from the road, a man sitting on a bike. He asked us if we were from the bank, and we said no, he relaxed! He was only joking of course and when we told him we wanted to metal detect the field he said immediately " Sure no problem, have fun " and rode away! Wow, that does not happen so easily many times....

Anyway we did not find much at all on that field, that is generally the case when people give permission so easily, but it was nice. The temperature today was in the 90's (F) so after a while we stopped and went home, it was just too hot and dry. Here are our finds. My nicest find was the silver watch winder (18th century) and silver 10c coin (1855), the oldest coin was from 1750.

The watch winder is unique and silver makes it even better . Looks like part of it was broken , but still a great keeper ! Nice work . :icon_thumleft:

Yes CMD, a small part of the top is missing, and also a part of the winding stem, pity but still happy with it because its my first silver winder out of 12 bronze ones! It was a surprize on this field, years earlier quite a bit of silver was found, even a silver spoon. And it was not found it that hot spot but way in the middle of the field.

Hi Cru, I have also never seen such a winder, but I guess they had many variations. Most are like these here in Holland, are they the same as in England?

I take it the bank is not a good friend of this man! :D
As long as he wasn't referring to the river bank. ;D
Nice finds
Yea, maybe it was a joke, but maybe the bank is trying to get the land back, but he was a happy jovial man...

Cool finds!!! How about sending some of that cool (90f) weather this way. It's been around 100f here lately. HH Gene

Your watch winder is one of the most interesting finds I've seen. Its craftmanship is incredible. I like a weathervane as well
