Silver Thimbles & a Silver Ring

A good day's detecting today produced two nice silver thimbles, there are no stamp marks but the biggest looks Georgian, although it must have been a small childs. The smaller of the two thimbles is also a childs but I think it's a little older, the gold ring is quite modern but nice all the same. Another small item of silver popped out today which I think is a silver roman earring, I say it's roman as there have been quite a few roman coins and other items found on this particular field. Also a very small roman coin called a minum I think it's a Constans, but I am not quite sure as the coin is very small. It's only about 3 mill in diameter, sorry about the picture on this one even with a macro it's hard to get a good photo ;D.

Re: Silver Thimbles & a White Gold Ring

Great digs!!

The ring you are referring to as white gold is actually sterling silver. It is marked 925, the mark for sterling.

Keep it up!

Good call on the ring hadn't noticed the 925 until I had posted pics

Nice finds. All that history at your feet while you go out detecting. :P I suppose you use little or no discrimination and listen for those faint but solid signals. I read somewhere about Bill Wyman, formerly with the Rolling Stones, being into MD'ing and perhaps doing a book on finds in the uk.
Some times you can set the discrim very low, but I normally set it at about 2/3 quaters on the lobo. I hadn't heard about Bill wyman being into md'ing. Do you use a lobo as well.
