There is an 1867 home on the Virginia coast that I've wanted to hunt for years, but the owner kept putting me off to the point that I had all but written it off my list of possible permissions. So, I'm at work last Friday and I get a call from the owner saying, "If you still want to metal detect this property, you'd better get out here because I am putting it up for sale." Well, I dropped everything and headed for the coast. I began late that afternoon and finished up at sundown on Sunday. The property has about 5 acres in manicured lawn surrounding the home, so I was basically in frantic cherry picking mode the entire weekend trying to cover as much ground as possible, not knowing if I would be allowed to return. I dug a mountain of clad and wheats, but the real surprise was in the amount of silver I found - to include several firsts for me. I pulled 19 slivers, total, including a war nickel that is not pictured. The finds included 5 GW quarters (1934, 1942,1943,1954, 1956); 5 Mercury dimes (1917,1935,1941,1942,1944); 3 Rosie dimes (1947,1952,1954); 1 Walking Liberty Half (1945), 1 Seated quarter (1873), 2 seated dimes (1876, 1890), and what may be a silver shilling of unknown date. Any ideas on that one (bottom row, far right in the first photo - see the last photos for close ups) would be appreciated. The Walking half and seated dimes were all firsts for me, so needless to say I had one heck of hunt! The Walker half, a Mercury dime, a Rosie and four wheats were a coin spill out of the same hole which was the second target I dug when I got there on Friday afternoon. Little did I know that I was just getting started!

Excellent! Congratulations

Twice now I have given a bottle of wine to the owner of a permission, as a Thankyou for the beep....those were 5 silver yards.
I can't imagine 19.... And the variety!....you win.

Congrats on the silver, especially the Spanish real!

Man that is a sweet hunt,, I think my best silver day was a total of 12 coins. Just like you, I would spend as much time as possible at that site. I would also pick up something nice for the owner.
Congrats

Great haul

You deserve those finds for your perseverance

Wow wow wow!, great hunting right there!, I bet you were thrilled to finally get access to that place, congrats!!

Now that's a dream hunt, I don't care who you are, you gotta love a silver score like that, Congrats. :occasion14: That's about 4 months of silvers in my area.

I still can't beat 12 silvers in a day. In reviewing the video I took of the hunt, I think I found 8 in one day. The entire lot took 2.5 days of digging. As you and a few others have suggested, I will be circling back to the owner soon (currently he is traveling) and probably take him out to dinner!

The last permission where I dug 3 bucket listers, I bought the gentleman a 6 pack as a thank you.

Now that's a GREAT Coin Hunt Right There.

Makes me wonder what medium & Low Tones are at that Homestead.

Ditto! As I stated, I was purely cherry picking. No telling what I've left behind. But if I can ever get back, you are sure to see an update!

It would be days before I could sleep again just wondering what was still there. You should submit story to Eastern/ Western Treasures as that is a great hunt!

Congrats on a KILLER hunt and the kind of hunt we all dream of having, Sweet!!
A dream hunt finding several first for yourself and a Sweet ole Spanish silver!!
Awesome, Awesome, Awesome!!

Oh, the possibilities. Yes, I've lost sleep over it. It's also been a continuous topic of discussion with the wife, who is about ready to kick me out of the house if I don't shut up about it! Thank goodness for TNet!

That's a great hunt alright. That seated quarter is amazing I can only dream of finding one in that condition. Definitely looks like Spanish silver in the last picture. There oughta be some large coppers there somewhere . congrats

Amazing permission! Probably a lot more there if you can get permission to get back on it. I'd be there from first light until dark everyday I could. Congrats!!!!!!!!
