Silver Slag at 1800's farm site ??

Was hunting a new site today that is turning out to be a fairly target rich site. Has anyone ever found silver slag at a mid to late 1800s farm site? I'm pretty sure its silver and wondering if somebody was making jewelry or if the house burned down and melted down a few pieces of silver.

Haven't found any coins, but did find half of an interesting handmade, heart-shaped locket, as well as some ornate hinges, and various badly decomposed iron pieces. I'll be going back next Friday and investigate further. I can't wait to see what other stories this site will hint at, while it offers up more tokens of the past.
