Hello All,

I dug this mystery silver salamander on a site with the majority of the items were 1880-1915. We had a few earlier items such as a silver spoon made in Ohio in the 1830-50 era, but I’m sure it was brought with the family who lived there. No other relics were that old except for a few clay pipes. Of course I imagine this item was 1900-1920 but I really don’t know when it’s from or what it was for, but I really like it a lot. It’s not often we dig anything shaped like that! Yes I’m positive it’s silver. I cleaned it with baking soda and aluminum foil method and it’s intricately made. It fits almost perfectly on a US Nickel coin. Thanks so much for your help!

Best Wishes,

Buck

No stamp or mark on it at all but I’d say you’re right it does look like a gecko. It’s very beautifully designed and finely made.

I would guess turn of the 20th C. Apparently, the salamander motif was "a thing".

Can't help with the ID Buckles but I'm surprised it came out of the ground in such good shape. I like it :icon_thumright:
