Grabbed a sub sandwich for lunch a few days ago and checked my change like I always do and was pleasantly surprised. For only the second time in the last 40 years or so I found a silver quarter.
Congrats, that's a rare treat! I've found the occasional silver dime in my change, but never a quarter.
I'm amazed by how so many people I've spoken to have no idea about silver coins, or how to tell which ones they are. I've heard "coins used to be made of real silver?" and "so what, what's special about that?" and "are they worth more or something?" and "ooh, I have silver polish!". Lol
Nice! Silver quarters happen...’bout 5 years ago I received two, both at gas stations thirty miles apart from one another, within two weeks of each other...both times the attendant went to hand me my change and heard the ‘tink’ of silver, stopped and said “hey, there’s something different about this one”, as I held my breath and thought - just gimme the silva!
Not too long ago in my town a young lady accidently gave the gas station clerk a silver certificate. He fumbled around a bit and the next she new the police arrived. The good man was foreign born and had never seen one before. The police laughed and the young lady kindly offered to give him a newer bill and he graciously consented. That's my little town!
A very good friend of mine and fellow dectecorist received a 1909 Barber quarter back in his change about two years ago. He was, needless to say, floored. Isn’t it great to be handed a silver coin without having to work at it for hours? Congratulations on your good fortune!
