Marl, also known as green sand, was used for fertilizer many years ago. It was mined locally at an old chemical plant nearby. I metal detected here in town today in and along a stream running into the Rancocas Creek layered with marl. I managed to find a 1943P silver Jefferson war nickel, an old railroad spike, a carbon battery rod, probably to a battery operated railroad switch as the old railroad bed is nearby, and some other pieces of iron. The photo of the sunken barge is from a local paper in 1955.View attachment 1497031View attachment 1497032View attachment 1497033View attachment 1497034View attachment 1497035View attachment 1497036View attachment 1497036View attachment 1497037View attachment 1497038 IMG_6216.JPGIMG_0695.JPGIMG_0712.JPGIMG_0693.JPGIMG_E0709.JPGIMG_E0710.JPGIMG_E0705.JPGIMG_0684.JPG
