Silver Eagle trouble

I recently recovered a White's Silver Eagle detector that had been burried in my mother's attic for the past decade or so. Much to my dismay the detector failed to turn on upon replacing the old corroded batteries with fresh ones. She says that it functioned fine before storage. I've disasembed the detector, and to my limited knowledge everything seems fine (wires are all secure to the chips and such). Yet, despite my efforts the machine still fails to show any signs of life, beit on the display or through the speaker.

Any suggestions would be greatly appriciated.

p.s. Lovely forum you all have here. The wealth of knowledge and stories are simply overwhelming. :coffee2:
