I was just curious as to how many of you have found a silver dollar. I have found only one, a Morgan Dollar. It was found at an old sawmill site in Virginia back in 1993, and there was a Barber Half Dollar in the same hole! Just for the purpose of this post, we'll say that only Morgans and Peace Dollars count. If you've found a Trade Dollar or an earlier one, including Spanish Milled Dollars, please make us DROOL by posting a photo on the thread below.

Cheers!

1899, I forget the mint. Of the 6.02 x 10 to the 23 (sorry, don't know how to do scientific notation on the computer) dollar signals I've gotten, that's the only real one.

I take for granted you mean U.S.
so I chose 1

For the 1877 Trade Dollar I found in 1999

In 2000 I found this Silver Coin, which is the Same
size as a U.S. Silver Dollar

Last year I found a Peace Dollar, 1923. It was a surprise, but all the coins at that site were from the 20's. It's a bank, now.

If an 1829 8 reale counts, I have 2.
Otherwise, I have 1.

That's easy math.

Morgan 1886
Peace 3-1922 2-1923 1-1926

I like this post because it makes me get motivated to find another $1 as it's been 20 plus years since I last dug one. I have been fortunate enough to find 3 Morgans and 2 Peace. Unfortunately, they were all stolen in 2002 when my most of my Treasure hunting treasures and coin collection were taken in a break in of my house.

Good luck to everyone fiding the big silvers!

Smiles!

A Susan B., but none of the Morgans or Peace variety. :( But I ain't done yet.

I have found two. They were both found within a week of one another but in different towns. What is unusual is that both were filed down completetly on both sides to make love tokens, I suppose. Back then I was selling any silver that wasn't key dates (highschool years). My buddies thought that I kept showing them the original one that I had found over and over again. I never could get them to believe that I had found two almost identical coins within a week of each other. By the time I had found the second I had already sold the first....Steve

I have found quite a few but they really don't count as they were found in the early days of detecting with a BFO. Folks who were the first to detect those old Nevada school yards found quite a few. Silver dollars in my opinion were more common as legal tender in the West far longer than in the East.

Found a bunch but it was in the 60's. Both on land and in the water. Haven't found one in many a moon since then

I've got four silver dollars found since I started this hobby back in 1984.

1885-S Morgan found at an elementary school soccer field, found with a Whites Coinmaster in 1985.

1922 Peace Dollar found at a demolition site in 1992, Fisher CZ6.

1879 Morgan Dollar (cut in half by lawn mower) :-[ , found in a San Francisco park in 1994, Fisher CZ6.

1921 Morgan found at old abandoned air force base in 1996, fisher CZ6.
.

When I started in the 60's found quite a few also with a BFO unit. But in the last few years only found two,
a 1884 morgan and a 1922 d with my modern detectors, well maybe more to come who knows. Also 5 peso coin larger than a silver dollar date 1955. With 27 7/9 G 0.720 (silver content?) interesting coin.

Oh, that's just great!! I've found 1 silver dollar so, I voted. Then I read that my Ike dollar doesn't count. Fine, you have a vote in there that is incorrect. I'll take my dollar elsewhere.
