I got out for my customary 4hr Sunday morning hunt today and my first signal was the silver handle to what I have no idea. :dontknow: This site dates c1815, so this silver relic likely dates to the mid-19thc. After that it was button, after button, after button... well you get the idea! :laughing7: The thick brass or bronze tag is a mystery as well, I sure wish it had some writing on it. The 'Dandy' tombac button has a beautiful engraved design, nice to still have the eye-loop attached too.

Thanks very much for looking,
Dave

I would guess a hair brush of some sort maybe? That tag has me quite intrigued buddy. Not sure why it gets my attention but it does. So let me get this straight....you get 4 hours every Sunday to hunt while I work 7 days a week? That ain't cool bro! But Old Abe will be taking 4 days in a row to hunt. Can't freakin wait man

Silver - probably part of a Ladies beside table set.

The 'pendant looking' thing looks like it was the central swinger to a horse harness mount. Pretty sure they called them 'swingers', they swung in-between a loop that sat on top of a heavy horse.

Thanks for your post Abe!
Hey, I work hard and travel all week, so by Sunday I've earned a 4hr break from my wife... I mean my work! :laughing7:

Best of luck to you on your 4 day hunt buddy,
Dave

Nice assortment of finds congrats

Thanks very much Art, best of luck to you! :icon_thumright:

Hello Cru, thank you for your post and for your thoughts! :hello:
The silver handle is very small, literally about 2.5" long... maybe for a child?

Interesting that the 'pendant looking' thing might be 'horse furniture'.
This piece looks to be very old and it has some 'meat' to it, sure wish it would have been inscribed though.

Just found this pic on line and they describe these as
"nineteenth century heavy horse brass fly head terrets (swingers)."

Dave

Nice catch on the sterling handle, and buttons. The fly terret is a really different find congrats.
Now even though I was still scratching me arse drinking my morning coffee looking at your texts of you digging silver and buttons, you had a great morning of digging.
Did I ever tell you the weather sucks! Too much hay, not enough sun! Not looking promising for the cuts before the 24 weekend either-oh well I'll live through it.:(

Thanks very much buddy, but don't forget I've seen you find coin after coin while I'm only digging square nails! :laughing7:
Lots of rain here as well, thankfully we have a great supply of pumps for sale.
I'm in London for the next four days, hope to do some swinging... the detector that is! :laughing9:

At least we have a 3-day weekend coming up, talk to you soon,
Dave

Nice hunt . I like that sterling handle.

Thank you Sir, best of luck to you!
