I knew a guy that was always way ahead of me in the number of rings he has found and no doubt you have too. However many times these hunters count all the rings they have found including plastic and other junk rings while I was only counting Silver and Gold rings.

Granted any ring found is a goodie, but may not have much value. The value is in the finding anyway. Either way when someone says they have found X amount of rings, they all may not be precious metals and you shouldn't worry to much about someone getting ahead of you. The fun is in the finding. It is even more fun when you find more than your dumb brother in law which is your partner. ;D

simply put for some folks if its not worth $$$$$ bucks it ain't squat ( for them only silver and gold or platinum count as "rings") for other folks who are less into the cash end of it --all "rings" count

for some folks -- a brass ring found at a civil war site is the bomb * -- while others would go --oh a "junk" brass ring -- the "money types" not knowing or caring that the "junk"ring historically and possibly even cash wize to a CW colector is actually "worth" more.

at the end of the day --you and you alone count what you count -- so do what makes you happy ---however if you know your an all ring counter * say so --"so far this year I got counting all the differant kinds and types of rings I found "x" number of rings" would be an "honest statement" and clear away any "issues" --only gold / silver counters have so they don't think you "inflating" your count.

I don't find many rings. But the ones that I talk about is my silver and gold ring. So I would say no don't count the junk....Matt

I have a grand daughter that I have spoiled for any dude that comes along later in her life and thinks she won't like gold rings. I save every ring I find, junk or not, even the plastic ones which are less than junk in my book. Still they are still rings. I don't keep a running count any more as nobody would believe me anyway. Since I detect anytime I want, I have my coil covering lots of ground and the law of averages means I will get my coil over many more good targets than the guy or gal that goes out just on weekends.

A few years ago I started saving all my pull tabs too for some reason. I have almost two five gallon buckets and what they weigh I have no idea. I smile even when I see a pull tab in my scoop as I figure that is one less I will have to dig some day.

Have a goodn',

Just outta curiousity, take a stab at that number of rings youve found.....

Sandman, I don,t count junk rings as they have no value to me. I toss them in a large box I have. That tip you gave on Kitco is great. I have it set on my pc. I have Kitco set in my faveriotes also but haveing it set in the corner of my pc and changing all the time is a good way to keep your eye on them price of gold. I buy and sell gold at our flea market every weekend so I have to know what it is selling for. Thanks Dennis. Mike.

sounds like a compition between you and another MDer.

Good luck but you should show a picture and have people rate it. use the point system.
