Should I do it??!! 19 Morgans in GREAT shape for $475

Nitric , that's an awesome idea to make our own data base of known examples of sketchy coins , I'll get some photos and exact weight x dimensions of the 1/2 gram short Morgan . We can log , date , material , purity if known , weight dimensions and any obvious signs to look for and another important factor is when coin was acquired !

It's funny you mentioned gold coins, I was just talking with my coin guy , he's been in the business 40 yrs , he collects counterfeits , he told me during the 60's and 70's they where mass producing 2 1/2 dollar indians 5 dollar indians and to a lesser extant 1 dollar gold , he said the number of quality counterfeits and forgeries could be as high as 20% in the 2 1/2 series , he gets a lot of estate appraisals where they pop up and people freak when they find 3 of the coins are only 40% gold or worse gold plated!

Ya, I have a story about those too! I met an individual that claimed he was a part of this in his past. But we sat and listened to all kinds of stories and have no idea of who was full of BS or not. lol I did have a friend who had a gold coin switched on him. They walk through, look at what you have and type of package or slab. They then go to their trunk of their car make a quick look alike. And wait till your busy, they will ask to see your coin. While you are watching them, someone will walk up and start asking questions about a bigger sale. The guy with the coin switches it with his, and hands it back to you. If your preoccupied with the potential big sale buyer, you don't notice it's not your exact coin or package and just put it back in your case. I had a guy come in and show us loss prevention type stuff too. These guys are slick. They can take your watch in a hand shake! I'm not exaggerating either!

oops, I get caught up and forget where I'm posting! sry for side tracking the thread! These are things to watch for when selling your stuff!!

Also when selling coins, Gold...Platinum and Silver jewelry, watches, etc., you have to really watch out for Blockers. Blockers usually consist of one or two people that come up to your' table feigning interest in certain items while all the while, they are attracting your attention away from ends of the tables as well as leaning over the table or tables to block your view of their accomplice who is taking items off of one of your' tables. I had this happen to me at a Flea Market and there were 3 accomplices working together stealing high end items of Seller's tables. In my case, they stole a 14k and Diamond Ring with 3 old European Cut Diamonds worth about $2,500 in today's market. The center stone alone was near .75 carat, "F" in color and a VVS-1. I was able to track the stolen ring down which was pawned at a Pawn Shop some 14 miles away and after filing charges against the person who pawned it, waiting 3 months for a Court date and sitting in Court all day, I was finally able to get the ring back.
