Shotgun slug or civil war bullet

Found at a civil war site, I thought at first it was a slug but it doesn't match up to any of the other slugs I've dug.

It doesn't look like a modern slug. Appears to be about .58 cal something? Some of these guys will know. Tony

looks to be around 9/16ths, which is roughly around .55 cal, which puts it in the right size to be a 28 gauge slug. a precise measurement in 100ths of an inch would be needed to say for certain though. It's definitely an old one based on the patina.
