What an incredible find. Wish we had stuff that old here. Heck id take 1600's. laughing. When you say rare it must be something special. It must be an amazing feeling holding something like that in your hand. If it could only tell you about its travels. Congrats

Just checked the PAS, looks to me like no more have been recorded. Still only 1 known.

That's incredible. Makes it that much better having something from that period of time that no one else has or very few have. I try to imagine life back then and what a coin like that would have meant to someone. To lose it must have been rough but their lose is your gain. I'm putting in a banner vote. Seriously old silver and the rarity of it makes it banner worthy without a doubt.

Fantastic find there..banner for sure!

Hi Crusader and Dad,
I would like to thank you and your father for sharing you wonderful finds. I can't help to think how fortunate your are in what you do.
Best wishes and happy hunting.....Joe McDonough

I am always in awe of the things you find. Now to figure out how to do the whole banner thing.

Now that's an easy decision to put the banner vote in on this coin. What a day out there, two cut quarters and the Roman to boot plus the relics makes for one top notch day. Congrats to both of you!

Only one known and now there are two? Instant BANNER without question.

Could we see some more pictures after a good cleaning Cru'? That is just too-awesome a find to not be able to sit and stare at it for a while....

Incredible finds.
You never cease to amaze that's for sure.

A big CONGRATULATIONS! I enjoy learning about all the things you find.

It will not clean anymore, not without damage. These coins are very crude & are made (cast) from a metal named 'Potin' which is a ''special alloy of bronze, which contained an unusually high percentage of tin (up to 25 percent), and quite often an appreciable percentage of lead as well.'

Its not a pretty coin but the fact I can ID it is good enough for me, I was not expecting such a rare type & its pretty far from where they 'think' they were minted. My recording should add weight to the 'idea' that it's British made not French.
Here are the pictures in natural light;

Silver wasn't produced for coins made in Britain of this period. Above I explain the unusual metal type they used.

That would make sense thanks. I still stand by the banner vote on rarity.

Congratulations on finding such a gem!

Wow - that was an extremely productive site, especially for coins. Looks like all that extra effort to clear out the trash really paid off.

If a coin specimen that is one of two known does not make the banner I do not know what will ! Congrats on another outstanding find ! I am voting ! MaineRelic

Excellent recovery. Hard work and perseverance pays off.

AWESOME BANNER coin Cru, my vote is in. Did you know what you had when you first dug it?

I bet a find like that will almost make you addicted to metal detecting. ;)

Hate to see him get addicted, he only hunts once a day now.
