Went to visit my parents this evening, and the wife needed to nap for a little bit so I took an hour hunting one of my "beat" sites, and this wax seal turned up.
The design is a lock and key with the phrase "La Clef Est A Vous" which appears to translate to "The key is to you". The only thing I can find online with that phrase is a mortgage document from 1788 that is sealed with the same seal. Pretty cool find for me! If anyone has any info, I'd appreciate it.

Cool seal stamp, that is the coolest design I have seen yet!

Very nice! Hope you can discover more details about it.

It is! This site had early activity, we were all there back in 2010, but it was plowed again this spring. Pretty quiet spot now though.

That is very cool!

totally awesome. Certainly a rare find, and something similar is on my top ten wish list.

Those have always been one of my favourite finds, now I'm sure that will be one of your favourites for sure!
Fantastic find, well done
I like it!

Sure is, I like anything that's different, and this one is just that!

Wow! I want one of those. Never dug one... This year will be the year. Congrats on a cool one! Never seen anything like that design before. Cool that it depicts a smokehouse lock, of the style that many of us recover. Way cool.

Cheers,

Buck

It's a pretty cool design, I've found similar locks before myself. Wasn't something I really ever thought of while detecting, but now that I found one I'll hope for more :D

I would place it in the late 18th C (problem is some similar designs extend to 1850). Nice to see it whole, too many times they lose the stone.

Another very nice wax seal, I do agree, there seems to be something special about them, great to find, that is for sure.

Great wax seal find. I'd love to find one of those. Congrats!

Of course you would find one...your luck is like Romeos :laughing7: I mean gold coin, Spanish cobs
Why, not a wax seal...all jokes aside, fantastic find there, they definitely have the cool factor.
I had that on my wish list for many years now...I would like to see a wax impression of it...

Yes get some wax, it seems you can see the detail much better when actually used. I know a fellow just got some wax just for that purpose today.
