70 stray cargo containers pose threat to mariners off North Carolina
[FONT=times new roman,times]PORTSMOUTH, Va.— The Coast Guard is warning mariners of navigation hazards after about 70 cargo containers fell off of a cargo ship Saturday night, about 17 miles off Oregon Inlet, North Carolina.[/FONT]
[FONT=times new roman,times]The cargo ship Maersk Shanghai contacted watchstanders at Sector North Carolina’s command center via VHF-FM marine radio channel 16, notifying them that they lost approximately 70 to 73 cargo containers due to high winds and heavy seas.[/FONT]
[FONT=times new roman,times]The Coast Guard urges all mariners to transit this area with caution.[/FONT]

Depending on buoyancy, load, etc. and if they were in the Gulf Stream, they may hit a lower layer and ride up and into the Northern Atlantic. Have seen videos of underwater with the Cigar/speed boats that may have run drugs that were scuttled and instead of going all the way down, got caught in the stream and rode up the East coast and out, underwater. If they do come ashore, yeah RTR, no scoop needed! Maybe a dozer or two.
 

Man, those must have been some rough seas off the mid-Atlantic coast during Winter Storm Riley!
