I found a rock, about 2" long, in the creek on my property with black speckles in it. The speckles are shiny. Not polished shiny, but chipped shiny. Perfectly flat. You have to get the right angle on every speckle to get it to shine. Not sure what that is called. Any idea what kind of rock this is?
Granite schist with what are probably tourmaline crystals, the black, is my guess. The white is likely a combination of quartz and feldspar. Not uncommon for some regions but it makes an attractive decoration.
