sharping stone

Tmodel sharpening stones only came into play when metallurgy came into play. You see them commonly as a flat stone. When the Indians began using metal that was during the copper age. Roughly about 5500 yrs ago. This is still forcing the re-writing of books as more and more copper artifacts are being found up by the Great Lakes. It is believed that Indians had no contact with the outside world since the land bridge crossing and up until historic settlers. All of which are now being contested. Copper artifacts where the start of a transition and found alongside stone artifacts. Abrading stones served a purpose for tens of thousands of years. Sharpening flint points and flint knives were not one of them. Grinding the point would be the only thing i can think of that used a stone and that was a hammerstone that they used for that. There are several types of sharpening stones but most are flat some are on a wheel. Now there are metal and even leather for sharpeners. Hope this helps you out...............GTP
