N Louisiana
Detector(s) used
Ace 250
Am taking up MDing after 30 years vacation; have returned to Louisiana to the "old home place." The old detector died and I need another. Thing is, I'm a itty bitty thing with weak hands and wrists, though the rest of me is ready to rumble. Am on 100 (paleoindian) acres that's been lived on in multiple spots by family for 100+ years. All houses and cabins are history now except mine. The nearby village is 200 years old and I own 5 acres there that's been occupied by businesses and homes for the same length of time (mostly bare land now). You can see my mouth watering, can't you? Anyone know of a good detector that's not too heavy that has good discrimination and isn't too complicated? Strictly hobby. (No sense in my shopping 'til I drop and still wind up with something other than what I need when I can ask the experts!) Thanks!

You can't go wrong with a Garrett ACE 250! Retail at $199.00 and is almost as good as the $800.00 machines!

the ace 250 is popular amoung everyone here it seems, also i have a bounty hunter tracker 4 and its lightweight but lacks depth, but its good if ur diggin every type of metal, but id prolly go with the ace 250.

Thanks, guys. You're sure making this easier. One more thing ... you don't know of one that detects rocks, do you? This place is littered with arrowheads. -Noodle

Sorry No Such Animal.

The Only way to Find Arrow Heads Is with your Eyes.

Ok, it's ordered! Thanks, everyone, for your help! I'll be sure and post my finds, if I'm lucky enough to have had ancestors with pocket change and loose fingers. Happy Hunting! -Noodle

Same to You Noodle.

HAPPY HUNTING

you made a good choice noodle!! check back and let us know how youre doing!

As far as arrowheads go, on of my favorite techniques is to hit the freshly plowed fields right after a hard rain, the arrowheads will be sitting on top of little "pillars" of dirt! :D

Omni,
Thanks for another great hunting tip. Seriously, a while back you were asking for advice on a job. I think you've found it. Write a book on treasure hunting/metal detecting techniques. Be sure to add a chapter on etiquette and asking for permission.
Just on the hundred or so things I've picked up here in the past, Id be willing to buy one.
No joke, I'm serious.
Think about it. All the newbies and some of the old coots could use a good reference book.

thats not such a bad idea omni. you could include some of your outstanding research techniques as well. id buy one too!

WOW Noodle, that makes you what....about 285 years old. . . .just kidding. Everyone is raving about the new ACE 250 by Garrett. From what I read it's only about a little over 2.7 pounds. Not to heavy, huh. It is supposed to be quite a performer. You can't go wrong there. Good luck with your decision and welcome back.

If you are looking for something a little more robusto that can handle a fair ammount of iron and still pull silver out, I have heard that the Tresoro Vaquero is very light and has very good depth even compared to an ExplorerII.

Give it a swing.

Happy Hunting in 'paradise! Noodle, sounds like you got a nice hunting grounds out there!
