We have kept the ankle breaker Potato Field in reserve, it looked more choppy than most. In the past few years we have gridded about 60% of the total field, & it's been good to us with scattered random finds. Today we decided to try an area we haven't done. However, we have had record floods in some areas of Britain & this ground was super wet. Started off OK for 2 hours as it was frozen, but after that it turned into quick sand & we moved just before the 3 hour point (& after lunch):
Our aim on this field was to get 1 hammered & I did manage a pretty grotty one plus:
2 Blank Silver Coins
Medieval Lead Palm Guard (pictured it for Westfront)
Lead Token
19th C 1 Dram Medicine Weight (First of this type)
18th C Horse Harness Mount (with leather on reverse)
We then did just over 2 hours on the Sewage Site, totally a 5 hour boot sucking marathon (worst this year):
2 Scrappies
Tudor Dagger Chape
Medieval Horse Harness Hanger
Counterfeit Geo III 1/3 Guinea (only our 2nd)
Tudor Button
Leather Mount
Got the 18th C Silver Shoe Buckle bit OTWBTTC whilst crossing the Winter Stubble Field.
