We have kept the ankle breaker Potato Field in reserve, it looked more choppy than most. In the past few years we have gridded about 60% of the total field, & it's been good to us with scattered random finds. Today we decided to try an area we haven't done. However, we have had record floods in some areas of Britain & this ground was super wet. Started off OK for 2 hours as it was frozen, but after that it turned into quick sand & we moved just before the 3 hour point (& after lunch):
Our aim on this field was to get 1 hammered & I did manage a pretty grotty one plus:
2 Blank Silver Coins
Medieval Lead Palm Guard (pictured it for Westfront)
Lead Token
19th C 1 Dram Medicine Weight (First of this type)
18th C Horse Harness Mount (with leather on reverse)

We then did just over 2 hours on the Sewage Site, totally a 5 hour boot sucking marathon (worst this year):

2 Scrappies
Tudor Dagger Chape
Medieval Horse Harness Hanger
Counterfeit Geo III 1/3 Guinea (only our 2nd)
Tudor Button
Leather Mount

Got the 18th C Silver Shoe Buckle bit OTWBTTC whilst crossing the Winter Stubble Field.

I can really understand your quicksand remark. I have hunted in England under similar conditions and I am sure I gained at least 3 inches in height with the mud on my boots. In spite of the conditions, you still got some history out of the groound.

Sounds your conditions are the same as our in the moment. Did 3hrs in the rain today till the mud was too sticky. Your results are way better.
Thanks for posting the palm guard. I have to check my lead better.... Good day on silver! Congrats!

Finally a palm guard :laughing7:
Nothing beats a sticky boot hunt, so tiring, hard digging, even retrieving of a find, everyone should experience a few.
So well done on the silver-the buckle would of been a nice one whole.

Yeap, a pretty big silver version, but had little chance in a ploughed field.

I would put getting one whole as a pretty rare find.
Just wondering about the one silver with the two splits-has it been shot? I can see what looks like an "R" on it but it's hard to see.

Love the :) Of pic 4...very creative [emoji106]
Still waiting to get the noble straightened btw, I have an appointment with a Goldsmith in early January.

as usual great finds !!

Good, should be easy, but tell them not affect any of the details. Update us afterwards on the original post.

Nope, probably farm machinery. It looks totally blank other than the remains of some later counter-stamping.

cool silvers. I like that ultra-rare Roman chariot tail light bulb

Yeah, pictured it because it came from a sandy ploughed field & it wasn't only broken but had its filament intact.

What, no potatoes?
Nicely done... :occasion14:
