Went door knocking today and got a few good leads, but basically struck out minus a few wheats at an old bar I hit for half an hour or so. I got turned down a couple of times, but the bigger problem is nobody's home on a sunny Saturday! Oh well, I got some numbers and will make some calls over the next few weeks.

Anyway, I ended up back at a school that I've been working lately. It was built in 1926 and is still in use. I hit it for the first time a couple of weeks ago when I first got my Etrac and have hit silver there each time I've been back. I know other people have hit it....even had a guy come up to me tonight and ask me if I was having any luck. At that point I wasn't, and I told him so, and he told me that "only junk comes out of here" in his experience. I pulled my third Merc out of there tonight, and the first target I hit after that guy left was my first Barber dime (out of the same hole I had just pulled a wheat out of and then covered back up before thinking "hey, maybe I should check that"). So, tonight was my first multi-silver hunt, my first Barber, and my first time destroying a target...

I've hit on silver jewelry in the past, but I hadn't seen any at this school (although I did get an UGLY costume jewelry ring here tonight as well). I got a 12-46 repeatable signal next to a tree and when I started digging I hit BIG roots. What I was expecting to be another Merc was about 7" down underneath a root that was about 5" in diameter and sort of lodged between two other decent sized ones under the big root. My digger wasn't close to being small enough to work around the roots, but my screwdriver was. Over the course of about 10 minutes I resigned myself to whatever was going to come out of there (I'm stubborn and didn't intend to leave it) would probably be scratched. When it popped out, it ended up being a thin Sterling ring I had accidentally grabbed with the screwdriver. I bent the heck out of it and actually broke the ring. Luckily it wasn't something real valuable, but I did learn something!

that is some good looking silver. I like finding the Barbers. Congrats!

no - there is a pattern on the edges that didn't show up in the photo and it's stamped "Sterling" on the inside of the ring. It looks like it would've been nice if I hadn't destroyed it!

Nice silvers! It always cracks me up when people tell me that the area has been "hunted out" or "there's nothing left"! I love those lines. I usually end up with my best finds afterwards.

I Agree!! You know I don't think they have made the perfect machine yet! I have laid silver on the surface and my machine does not pick it up 100% of the time,so you know that tons of treasure is missed in "OLD HUNTED OUT PLACES"! The machine and the treasure just have to be in sync. on the exact day and time you are lucky enough to pass that coil over that exact spot!! I guess that is called destiny,Karma, luck, or something like that!! Sure is fun and it;s always a challenge!!

Doesn't "hunted out" mean all the trash is gone and the treasure is left deep?
