I'll probably be getting a new detector soon in hopes of renewing my interest in the hobby. The one I have now leaves much to be desired, and it's frustrating enough at times that I just pack up and go home.

I'm also trying to get rid of a guitar at the moment. I should be able to get about $300 - $350 out of it, so that's about the most I'm wanting to spend on a new detector. A few months ago, I bookmarked pages for the Garrett Treasure ACE 250 and the Tesoro Compadre. Do either of these have any significant advantage over the other?

Also, what's the single most important thing to look for in a detector in your opinion?

Thanks!

For what you get with the Ace250, would cost you $500-$600 in any other detector. I don't know about the Tesoro though. I went to Garrett today just to look at the 250 and was really impressed with it.

I have a bounty hunter lonestar that does me well but because of all the hype over the ace 250 I'm thinking of selling one of my old 3 slot coin pay phones to buy one.
