I'm real surprised that I'm not hearing more about these coils. I got one yesterday and the little bit of playing with it has impressed me. It seems to have great seperation and good depth and pinpoints a whole lot easier than the stock coil. All I've seen is mixed reviews. I don't get it, the junk gets talked up and the good, reliable stuff gets ignored.

Hey Bill, thats the typical thing, hate it or love it.

Many are (and where) skeptic to this coil.

I heard that there where some quality issues with the first coils from Detech?

I know Detech makes good products.

Did you see Ian's (Research & Recovery) video on youtube when using a SEF?
Interesting view really.

You could write what you think about it i.e Pro's and Con's. I am sure some would be interested in it.

I bought a 10 X 12 SEF coil and I honestly found more with the stock 950 on my MXT. I just sold it and now have a Super 12 on the way. I think nthe SEF coil would be better for relic hunters rather than coin hunters. Just my .02

I too have the 10X12 SEF and have a Super 12 on the way. The 10X12 is a good coil, but the weight is actually a little heavier than it originally seemed to be. I'm thinking of selling it and getting the 10X14 elliptical DD coil for bad ground. If there was a lighter machine with either Tone ID or LCD ID that could get the same depth as the MXT with a large coil I'd be all over it. I have an irritated rotator cuff in my right shoulder that flares up if I swing, even left handed, with a machine over 4 lbs, for very long. The X-terra 70 is working out great for coinshooting, but I haven't had a chance to give it a good workout searching for relics.

I have the 10" x 12" SEF on my MXT and love it :-*.I have tried the 14" x 8" but find it too heavy :(.It weighs in at 1lbs 13ozs ,where as the SEF coil is 1lbs 5ozs..I think if you are struggling with the weight of the SEF,then the 14 x 8, you'll find to much. I must admit though.I did like the 14 x 8,but after trying the SEF,i would never go back.(It's an injury problem that dictates this for me though). It performs great, and i can detect right next to iron. Also it is a very deep seeking coil.I also have the X-terra 70 with the 2 DD 10 1/2" round coils. The 7.5 and the 18.75 khz.I tend to use the MXT more now .I mainly search farmland. Not sure how the SEF would be on parks etc,but the target separation has impressed me on the farmland. It is also very sensitive to very small objects.

I have the 10 x 12 SEF and I wouldn't trade it for anything!!!! I use it on the DFX and have found it to be far superior to anything I have ever used on the same detector. I can run my preamp gain at 3 on west coast beaches almost all of the time, and even sometimes 4 with the DC sens at 74 without any major problems. It is very good at separating iron from good items and I don't have any problems with it being too heavy. I have just purchased the 12 x 15 and will be taking it out this weekend. Last week I pulled out a silver earring from a firepit on the beach without any problem. I am hoping the larger coil will give me just a little bit more depth without giving up the small items. I feel the stability and discrimination are vastly improved with this coil. I will update this post after I take out the bigger brother. HH DetectoDude!
