Just got my copy of the auction catalog...

Jupiter Wreck has some nice featured coins in it
with original certificates!

Look on pages. 81 and the top of page 82 if you want to see
some high quality 8 reales' from our shipwreck site and on page
31 if you wish to see a sweet two escudo from our site with
a great date digit.

These coins are truly recovered from our site (in the water) and not
alleged "beach finds" from an old coin thief
once associated with our project, who will remain nameless....

Just got mine too. Beautiful catalog just as I expected. I'll check out the coins when I look at it tonight. Did you consign these examples with Sedwick?

Yes!

I dug deep into early finds.
I figured if Jupiter Coins and I were going to be represented by Dan
in the U.S. we might as well give him some great specimens to set
the bench mark.....

I though Dan was going to give us a better placement but....

He set me straight!....
He said Jupiter Wreck was beginning to be an OLD story..... Ha, Ha,

What Dan and the rest of those who buy and sell rather than spend
serious time in the trenches actually risking all that one has to risk to bring
these coins to the surface and to eventual collector's collections
is the level of comittment it actually takes....

But, that's O.K. His dad put his time in....
Now, so is Dan....
Just Remember Dan.... Where the coins are actually coming from.....
Even if it is from us old timers.....

OLD story? That's great! - Based upon that, the 1715 fleet stuff should be stuck away somewhere with postage stamp sized pics and fine print print instead of getting all the attention.

I wonder what Kip W would think of the ongoing craze for 1715 fleet stuff and anything with Real Eight on it?

Yea, I kinda laughed as well....

I did't really feel as though I was qualifying to be part of the
over-the-hill gang....

Maybe if we run into the esteemed Reverend Bouchlas's Golden Madonna
and turn it over to him so he can give it to the "prince of peace"

or...... just happen to find a Lima 1659 Star 8 escudo or two
but of course, "on the beach"

We can be in favor once more....
Trying to save the dunes or the fornicating sea turtles or their off spring,
while being part of the band of, "the last Mohegans"
doesn't have a large enough fan base....

Ha Ha! Well there were 2463 alledgedly struck (1617 in 1659 and 846 in 1660).

The interesting thing is that there should be 1000 laying around out there on your site (royal shipment from mint records). You obviously aren't blasting deep enough....

Getting back to the thread topic, I noticed that the Sedwick catalogs are $40 on Ebay buy it now - shipped priority mail, if anyone needs one....

and if they are going to be anywhere.... there is a good chance they will
be on our.... "old news site"

I saw the only one known to exist at the Casa de Moneda in Spain...
I can't wait to see the next two or five or even 1,000 - if they were all
in the same hole....

I probably will have a stroke!!!

Question to Stan?

Where did you get your numbers?

I got mine from a commissioned report
requested by me through Eduardo Dargent at the University of
Lima - through the Bolivian and Peruvian Embasseys back in the
early 90's....

You know how us cretin dastardly treasure hunters are......
not concerned with research......

He mentioned in his latest catalog as well
we may have the missing Lima Star Eight Escudos
from 1659 at the bottom of one of our holes....

See now, why I want to dig deep and move rocks!

Apparently part of the following three volume set and has information on the Lima mint. Written in Spanish as were most of the references to it.

LAZO GARCÍA, Carlos. Economía colonial y régimen monetario, Perú: siglos XVI-XIX. 3 tomos, Lima, Banco Central de Reserva del Perú, 1992. [Descripciones documentadas del proceso de la acuñación de moneda, inventario de talleres, conceptos y relaciones técnicas y legislativas de la moneda].

Just so you will know, there were supposedly only eleven 1659 and five 1660 1 escudo coins minted. Maybe you should concentrate your efforts there (only dig the faint signals).
