Friday I finally got out for my first hunt of the year, the permafrost finally thawed enough to get my shovel in! I decided to try a nearby city park that I found a Merc in last fall, never did have the time to hunt much then.
Things started out with a Buffalo for my first nickel of the year, shortly after that I got a V nickel, so my first two nickels of the year were nice ones.
About an hour later I got a solid 19-20 that I figured would be a zinc, but when I flipped the plug, out popped a jade green coin, once I cleaned it off I saw it was an
Indian! Once I was able to get it cleaned off I saw it was a 1873, my oldest one yet!!
Today I went back and tried swinging slower (I have a hard time slowing down!), but once I did I was able to pop out an older wheat for my first of the year. A
little while later I got a 20-21 signal that turned out to be another Indian! this time a 1900.
I kept at it and a couple of passes later got a lousy 22-23 signal that was jumpy, but it was repeating, so I thought I better dig it, sure glad I did!
Once I got the plug out, I could see a silver rim sticking out, it was sitting vertical, must have been why the weak signal, I was expecting a Rosy or maybe a Merc
but once I got some water on it I could see the "one dime" staring back at me, when I flipped it over I could see the date clear as day, 1891!!
I just found me a seated dime in my local most likely pounded for years park!! Whooo Hoooo!!! I didn`t know it yet, but it was gonna get better, when I re-checked the plug, my pinpointer started singing again, after looking around for a few seconds I see another silver dime! After spraying it down I saw Lady Liberty staring back at me again, this time it was an 1887!!!!!
It took me almost an hour to calm down after that, I was pumped, my first two silvers of the year, and their Seated, wow!!
For the weekend I ended up with a little over $12.00 in clad, including the five dollar coins, which is as many as I found all last year.
