After promises of cheap vodka and those little wrapped wiener thingies, I somehow managed to coerce The Dark One to allow me to visit one of his favorite locations. We have found many interesting items there, and I wanted to really start trying out the DFX that's been sitting next to the weight bench, next to the exercycle, next to the three loads of laundry, etc.. After learning from previous hunts with T.D.O., I learned to a. always be the one who drives, (I've seen death, not a big fan), and b. never show him what I've dug. Rules to literally live by. We arrived early at the site, and after repeated attempts to bring him back to consciousness, I some how managed to drag him from the car. Apparently he's not a morning person. I configured the DFX, and started to hunt. After about a half hour, I dug an obviously burnt 1853 Seated Quarter. I was pumped! I dug only one other Seated Quarter, but I honestly think it was place by a cement crew laying sidewalks back in 1953. That coin is completely defaced, except for the date, (1853), and the sidewalks that still existed were all stamped "1953" After looking to make sure T.D.O. wasn't watching me, (he does that a lot), I quickly placed it in my pocket. He wasn't anywhere in site. Thank you God! After digging tons of scrap copper, brass, etc., I dug what turns out to be a " Willys-Overland Co. radiator grill plate. I found a photo online that I think matches the one I dug, but until I email them, I won't know the date for sure. It has to be from 1912-1936 is all I know. Again, I quickly hid my treasure. The last item I dug was a silver thimble, which after cleaning revealed "L.M.K., May-2-99" That easily fit into my jean pocket. I learned to always bring along a small handful of Wheaties, in case T.D.O. wanted to see, and take from me what I've managed to dig that day. Realizing that I had to get ready to go to work, I somehow managed to locate T.D.O.'s comatose body. He was slumped over in the front seat of my car! he hadn't even got out to detect! After explaining to him who I was, and where we were, I quickly drove him to the shelter, and dropped him off. Good day of detecting, decent finds, and best of all, I didn't have to buy any vodka.
