I have A FRIED WHO LIVES IN Pennsylvania where I had visited in Oct. While there I seem to have gotten him hooked on metal detecting. We are both retired and he has found that detecting is for him. He looks at everything differently now as in, "that looks like a good place", you all know what I mean. Now, my question. He called me today for an opinion about a detector he has been looking at on line, and it is a Minelab Vanquish 4 or 540. Now between the two, I would go the 540. but knowing he is talking $400, I would recommend a Nokta Triple Score for $500, my thinking he would get more bang for the buck. I have Minelabs and the Legend, which I had him use during my visit, and I think the Nokta is built a bit more sturdy, and the tripl score is fully waterproof where the Vanquish is not, and you can select a single Freq, IF you so desire, etc. Have any of you fellas or lady's, have anyone used both of the two detectors? The Vanquish 540 and the Nokta Triple Score? Any thoughts. I told him I will call him back with a recommendation as to a good detector at that price point. I am thinking though that the 540 at$399 will leave him room for a pinpointer. So....I need to remember it HIS detector and not what I would buy for me....

I thought that, but Minelab or Nokta, two different sites, two different followings, so I went for a general or neutral place (Help section) either way, I'll let my friend know of the two, and of course he will choose. Thanks VPnavy.

I would recommend the Nakta over the Minelab not because I've ever owned one but because the Minelab has a reputation for breaking under stress, and I've heard the Nakta may have better customer service ? And I have not heard of any issues with the Nakta brand..
