Had the opportunity to work a fresh tear-out last night. Unfortunately the soil in the area had a lot of clay and was just terribly unkind to any lost items. I spent more time trying to make items presentable for posting than I actually spent digging them up. Sorry for the delay in posting, but here's the best I can show you...
Silver usually cleans up decently, but even these items have been noticeably degraded by ground conditions. I didn't bother with a picture of the trime's reverse because there simply weren't any details to capture.
At least these store cards cleaned up fairly well. Found another example of the Kalamazoo card last year. Wish the Schoolcraft card would have faired better, I believe it is my first card from that town. Each of the cards were subjected to at least an hour of electrolysis and brutal scrubbing with toothpicks.
Before and after of the back of the Kazoo card to give some idea how far the cards have come.
This is a pile of the finds that were beyond hope. Seven IHPs including a fatty, and a two cent piece.
Monday's finds...
1857-O Seated Liberty Dime
Shield Nickel, date not clear, I believe 1869
Trime, no date visible
1910 Barber Dime
1863 Store Card, Kellog's, Kalamazoo, MI
Store Card, I. Allen & Son, Schoolcraft, MI; date unclear, likely 1863
Holed tag with the number 50
(7) Indian Head Pennies including one fatty, all dates unreadable
Two cent piece, date unreadable
