Went to a new field today. Its was harvested barley & the stubble was soft & so was the ground from the heavy rain last night.

I knew this was going to be good field when the second dig was a roman coin (had 4 in total). It was a very exciting field & I felt I would dig a roman silver or hammered any minute but never did :'(

1620s Royal Farthing - Charles I

17th century pewter nipple civil war era button.

Far left, first photo a medieval strap-end & next to it a Georgian Pipe Tamper.

2 star finds:

14-15th century heraldic horse leather stud with a chevon design. This is the type the knights used on their horses. RARE find. ;D

A bronze zoomorphic terminal from a bracelet. I think its a swans or snake head & Roman but could be Saxon/Medieval. :)

And bits.....

Things will get better, not sure my back will!

Crusader,
Truly amazing relics. I get excited finding relics in the 1800's. You could start your own museum.
Thanks for making me drool. ;D
Awesome hunt.

Thanks, I know I have said it before, but I do rotate my finds in the local museum for everyone to see.

Fantastic---I would love to have a field like that to hunt.
Congrats on those neat finds.

were there medivial skirmishes in these fields you hunt????have you ever detcted a battlefield???

Never detected any type of battlefield as most are protected by Law.

No skirmishes in this field at that time but the Cruaders stopped at the village on their way to the Holy Land. Also landed men/knights would have mini fights/competitions & the winner takes all the our guys goods. These happened normally in the same field year after year. I don't think this is the case with this field however it was a Mill Field in Medieval Times so alot of activity.

Visions of Knights and Romans are soo cool and to have some relics of their times is wonderful. Keep inspiring me buddy.....

Nice old finds! Is that an Irish Hibernia in the middle of the coins? HH, Mike
