I found a Garrett Sea Hunter XL 500 Pulse on ebay and bought it. Should be here soon. Always wanted a Pulse machine for the beach but it never worked out. Any advice is welcome. Headed to the Fort Lauderdale / Pompano Beach area. Need to get a good scoop also, any advice or shops in the area I can pick one up? Don't think I have time or would want to risk ordering it and have it show up at the house while I am down in Florida!

Thanks!

DO hunt regular pounded beaches, as others remove a lot of the junk for you
DO stuff some foam in those headphones, as there is no volume control, & it is LOUD
DO raise the coil above the targets if they are shallow to help pin-point
DO use the outer edge of the seachcoil verically to help isolate coins with coin spills
DO expect to also dig lots of junk, but DO expect to get good finds too!
DO get a large scoop, as a lot of finds will be at scary depths
DO expect to look a little (I said little) like Charles Atlass after a season of PI hunting
DO notice the double bleeps when running the search coil over nails and bobby pins.

And have FUN! :hello2: It's a hobby :laughing9:

.........GROUND HOG......You never reported back.....How did you do??......To help with the nails install magnets in your scoop....so at least you do not have to recover them twice!!..........Joe

When I was down there was storms off the coast all week. The surf was very rough! The waves kept pounding the beach. I did well right by where the waves were breaking. Lots of earings but nothing valuable.

I did glue a magnet and it worked very well!

My son, in the first five minutes we were there brought me a necklace he found. It had a rubber necklace with a gold like plus sign on it. I assumed it was junk , it was stamped 975. He got $165.00 for it at the mall! What a brat!!!

........I have a custom built long handled scoop..................for the salt water beach it is best to get it either made out of stainless steel or heavy aluminum......the heavy aluminum is probably the best since it is very sturdy plus is lightweight!!........Many of the older Garrett water hunters prefer the XL500 PI......it is not automatic.....if you get a very faint signal just keep the coil in that one spot and I guarantee you that the signal will increase in volume.........as you dig the signal will get louder.....if it was a false signal...or you just thought it was a faint signal.......holding the coil stationary will not increase the signal.......just something to practise on......I probably have 1000's of hours on mine........so one gets to know the instrument very good after this kind of practise and experience!! .........HH.....Joe
