Scuff Cover Or Not?

I have one on my excal and every few days I have to take it off and clean it and the coil because it will start giving me false signals. I guess it's the sand build up between the coil and the cover.

I use no coil cover on my Excal, and marine epoxy on my Sovereign WOT coil. All my land detectors have coil covers as there is more danger from rocks ect there, and almost none in the water.

I use a cover on all my machines, as long as they are available for that model. Cheap preventative maintenance. I see you're in Buffalo. I'm right accross the river from you in Fort Erie

coil covers can save wear in the long run, I actually wore a crevasse or elongated opening in my Surf Master from sheer wear & tear without a coil cover, covers how ever do accumulate black sand which can cause false signals, so either remove covers regularly or seal them.

I could see scuffing on the coil of the Ace after the first few outings, especially
on the beach.
I use a cover but take it off and clean out the sand after each beach use.
I'm not brave enough to seal the cover onto the coil.

Thanks everyone for all the good advice, much appreciated!!

I've never needed them until.....I just started detecting in the mountains. Very useful in rocky and woody areas if you have an open face "spider' coil. Keeps the rocks and branches from gettting into your coil.

i have been using the marine expoxy for over 7 years on all my coils FOR THE BEACH .

2 coats, maybe a 3rd after a year or so, with the expoxy, u can see where most of the wear takes place on your coil.

I have none on my beachhunter300. I wasn't sure about it but after a year and lots and lots of hours no problems and no real wear that I could see, and I scuff mine along the bottom on the sand big time
