Con men steal three miles of railway track

A group of German railway workers were conned into dismantling three miles of railway track.

Two men, claiming to be from German rail company Deutsche Bahn, ordered them to remove the track, in Lohra, Hessen, and load it onto a waiting lorry.

The con only came to light when the workers asked Deutsche Bahn for their money and were told the job had never been ordered.

Police believe the con men were thieves who carted off the steel track and sold it for scrap metal.

DB spokesman Hartmut Lange said: "I have never seen anything like this. We've had cases where cable was stolen, but never the tracks."

:o :o :o :o :o

not recommended just odd

You would think that for all that trouble they would have at least went for something worth more than scrap iron. They would have to torch it up into 36" lengths to get short iron price.

Thieves steal rail line

A train in Romania was almost derailed after thieves stole a large section of the rails to sell as scrap metal.

Police are investigating the theft of 20 meters of track between the towns of Dragasani and Calina.

A spokesman said: "Fortunately, the theft was noticed soon after the rails were removed and the approaching train was able to stop in time, averting tragedy.

"We are now looking for the perpetrators who have put people's lives in danger."

Scrap metal is bought in Romania by specialized companies with electric cables, rails and pipes being frequent targets for thieves in the worst-off regions of the impoverished country.
